OUR STORY

George Washington Carver

Our name is an homage to the great African-American researcher and scholar, George Washington Carver, an agricultural scientist who utilized the pharmacological and chemical composition of plants for numerous applications. Since 2011, Seeds of Carver has worked to address healthy food access, food sovereignty, and healthy environments for residents of South LA, and specifically residents in Council District 10.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

We have several education programs that puts theory into practice through our “Living Lab” Through this program we educate youth about urban farming, regenerative, and restorative farming. We incorporate our urban farming program into STEM programs at middle school and high schools. Student participation involves measuring soil and air pollution as “community scientist”.

Sustainable soil management is a cornerstone of environmental stewardship and agricultural sustainability. As we confront the challenges of a changing climate and a growing global population, prioritizing practices that nurture and protect our soil is essential. By adopting and promoting sustainable soil management techniques, we can create a healthier and more resilient planet for current and future generations.
